Smile what is the differences between i386,i486,i586,i686 ?


Hello all,

What is the differences between i386,i486,i586,i686 processor architecture ?How they are different ?.All are Intel made processor.How they vary from the performance,speed ?

I also punched in i386 on Wikipedia and it took me right to a page that covered that particular architecture. Now go read and stop asking silly questions when the information is already out there for you.

1386, i486, i586, i686

Linux and many other operating systems refers to different Intel CPU generations as i386, i486, i586 and i686. Strictly speaking, i386 refers to the 80386 processor family, i486 refers to the 80486 processor family, i586 refers to Intel Pentium or Pentium MMX processors, and i686 refers to all Pentium Pro and later processors.

Right...and this thread had been closed for SEVEN YEARS before today.
