What is going on here?


RH9, gnome, Opera

I download RPM`s and sometimes maybe 2 out of 5 times after clicking on it i put in my password so it can install and nothing happens after that it dosnt say its installing and no confirmation like other times it says package installed or something and then when i go to reinstall it I dont get the usual package already installed message. What is going on here?

Try installing it via the command line, its usually works more.

And yes, RPMs freeze sometimes, its a known problem and is being fixed (according to rpm.org).

rm -rf /var/lib/rpm/__db.*
and then try again.

Nevermind i looked it up. It deleted those __.* files but what are those files?

Temporary files from when an install went wrong and rpm couldnt/didnt clean it up.
