Hopefully someone else has run across this one...if the answer is to be found I know to look here from past experience (thanks to all)
Running RedHat Linux 9, everything working peachy for the most part.
I have VNC setup to start at boot by adding the command line
/usr/bin/vncserver -geometry 800x600 -depth 16 -name Servername :1
to /etc/rc.local
after the initial reboot and entering the session password to use at the console, everything works on subsequent reboots. I am able to attach and everythign.
The problem I have with this is that the session is running as 'root' and I would like to determine if possible, how to make it run using an alternate set of credentials.
I've created a standard user that I wish to use to run the session. I CAN NOT have auto-logon or anything like that happening. I want the few users who know about this server to be able to make a VNC connection to it and if 'root' access is needed, they will need to do an 'su -' at the CLI.
Is anyone aware of how to make this happen, I guess what I am looking for is similar to assigning a user account to services in the Windows world...
TIA for any help, greatly appreciated.
