Question VNC problems

I have used VNC on Windows a billion times but this is frist time on Linux. I am running Mandrake 8.1 on a Pentium II with 128 mb of RAM.

Anyways when I run the script it appears to start and then it just sits and does not ask me for a new password and it does not show anything or go to a new prompt. I also cannot connect to it from my Windows box. The only reason I know its running is because when I attempt to start it again in a fresh window it tells me that its already running.

Also, I attemed the use vncpasswd to change my password and it said that it could not write my password to the file even as root.

Lastly, when I attempt to run vncviewer (which is not my intent but I wanted to test) it appears to start find and the window pops up without a problem.

Any suggestions would really really help!

You need to create a .vnc directory within the user's home directory. The home directory for root is /root. After creating the .vnc directory, run vncpasswd.

Make sure that you created an xstartup file within the .vnc directory that specifies which window manager you will be using. A sample xstartup file should like this:

#!/bin/sh
startkde & # Use KDE window manager
# gnome-session & # Use GNOME window manager
