i have installed the new version of redhat ....7.3....but when i try to compile VMWare it give to me a weird error message saiyng that.....kernel headers and the running kernel are not of the same version.....and vmware cannot compile....someone knows what i have to do to install vmware in rh 7.3 runing kernel 2.4.18-3
yes, i'm running suse 8, and vmware gives me the same error message when i run vmware-configure.pl
Trying to find a suitable vmmon module for your running kernel.
None of VMware Workstation's pre-built vmmon modules is suitable for your running kernel. Do you want this script to try to build the vmmon module for your system (you need to have a C compiler installed on your system)? [yes]
What is the location of the directory of C header files that match your running kernel? [/usr/src/linux/include]
at this point, i enter the directory and get this error:
What is the location of the directory of C header files that match your running kernel? [/usr/src/linux/include] /usr/include
The directory of kernel headers (version 2.4.17) does not match your running kernel (version 2.4.18-4GB). Even if the module were to compile successfully, it would not load into the running kernel.
What is the location of the directory of C header files that match your running kernel? [/usr/src/linux/include]
Similar VMware problem. I've just loaded Mandrake 9 (as you might tell I a complete newbie) and have been trying to install VMware 3.2.
Error message along the same lines directory of kernel headers v2.4.18 does not match the running kernel v2.4.19-16mdk.
I would have thought with a completely new Linux installation everything would be smooth. I cannot locate any newer headers than v2.4.18 that match my Mandrake install.
Yeah, I'm using redhat 8 and kernel 2.4.18-18.8.0... I installed that version through the RHN so I didn't compile it or anything. That's probably why vmware asks me "What is the location of the directory of C header files that match your running kernel?"
when I try to run vmware-config.pl
