i need vinstall to install my via sound driver i downloaded from them. vinstall does not show up as a package for slack9 according to site, i cant find any info on bbs of people asking about it, and all i find on the internet is information on what it does, i cant find a place to download it or find anything. all i find are references to using it as if its as common as an ls
do i just not know what im doing, if so please feel free to give me a stupid slap
All I can see it's some sort of "package manager" provided by webhosters for virtual servers. If executing "vinstall" or "./vinstall" and then "?" to see a list of packages doesn't give anything usefull I guess it just ain't there. If your question ain't about a virtual host, then check if the package/tarball you downloaded is a "regular" one, I mean, those you can use the "./configure; make; su root; make install" combo on. If your question *is* for a virtual host, then contact your hosting provider.
sorry i see i asked the question badly, but after i got home after an hour of playing around i figured out the use of the tar command and realized that where before i was double clicking in X and extracting out and i get a file when i did tar i got a folder instead. which inside of it had a vinstall that i could run under sh. im a noob but thanks for replying
