Video files

Can someone tell me what to use in linux to play video files such as .mpeg, .avi etc? I've got some videos I've made from my digital video camera I want to see if they work in linux. While on this subject, can someone tell me if there's some nice software I can use to download digital pictures/video off my camera?

Thanks :0

There are plenty of choices available. First of all you should download real player for linux navigate to www.real.com http://www.real.com to download real player 8 (Note: it is hidden under previous versions in download section). I know there are some issues with realplayer being able to play mpeg's, so another good player is mtv you can get it from here mtvplayer

I use Xine with Divx plugin, it can play most all formats. never had a problem with it and it seems to be the most popular

I've been using xmms to view MPEG-1 files. Works pretty good, but I'm sure there are better solutions out there.

might as well get xine and mplayer, they both have their advantages.

And Realplayer is a must.
