Upgrading Kernel
Hello, sorry if this isn't in the correct forum...
I've installed Debian 3.0 with the 2.2.20 idepci flavor kernel recently and want to upgrade to the 2.4.2 or later kernel. I asked in the newbie forum and was told there was a sticky thread in linux general forum, but I don't see it even on search. Could anyone direct me to the appropriate thread or outline the process for me?
So far I've downloaded the tar file from kernel.org and try to bunzip2 it and get a ton of text (apparently code) echoed to the screen. After it finishes, there is no new directory for it that I see. I did this in usr/src as root user. Any ideas?
Thank you muchly
