Upgrading ALSA on Ubuntu Hardy Heron

Hi
I tried to upgrade ALSA-driver to "1.0.21" on Ubuntu Hardy Heron.
After ./configure & make & make install & restart, driver still is "1.0.16" :
Code:
$ cat /proc/asound/version
Advanced Linux Sound Architecture Driver Version 1.0.16.
Compiled on Oct 14 2009 for kernel 2.6.24-25-generic (SMP).
I tried again and again but it remains on "1.0.16" !
what's on ?
How can I upgrade the driver?

Thanks.

Snigger, you know, after you do "./configure & make & make install & restart", you should add a script, so that alsa starts itself everytime you start the computer. In gentoo you do something like
Code:
rc-update add "scriptname" boot
You should do the same thing for ubuntu. How? I don't know. And after that you should remove the script that starts the old version of alsa.
EDIT: At least in Gentoo, alsa doesn't start by itself during boot time. Anyway, I found a tutorial http://www.webupd8.org/2009/08/alsa-...an-ubuntu.html that doesn't mention this step

Hi
Excuse me for late response (I didn't noticed your edit until now)
Thank you very much!!!!!!!!!
It worked. (at second attempt)
Now it upgraded to "1.0.20" and on Dell Vostro 1520 without any change in alsa-base headphone jack sense started to work (but not internal microphone yet - just front mic jack works) .
Thank you very much again .
