Unable To Login to X-System/Command Line as User

I'm unable to login to Redhat 9.0 as a user, however I can su to a user and am still able to login as root. Here are a few things I've done recently that may have screwed things up, I've edited /etc/inittab, /etc/shadow, /etc/passwd and failed at installing apt and mplayer. I had problems with pam and compiling glut apps, however to fix it I had to change the permissions of a few files (mainly nvidia). Here are my errors (from /var/log/messages:

Code:
Feb 8 10:53:38 localhost login(pam_unix)[23582]: authentication failure; logname= uid=0 euid=0 tty=tty1 ruser= rhost= user=drdroid
Feb 8 10:53:40 localhost login[23582]: FAILED LOGIN 1 FROM (null) FOR drdroid, Authentication failure
Feb 8 10:53:47 localhost login[23582]: FAILED LOGIN 2 FROM (null) FOR drdroid, Authentication failure
I heard somewhere that this might be releasing too much information, if it is, please just make a note of that in your responce. I really want my system back, I've been without for almost two days now.

As root, try changing the password of your user with passwd <user>, and yeah, a little too much info. Not to worry too much, but consider making a new user with strict passwords. Also, make a habit of checking your logs.

Well, see if the password change allows you to log in as the user. if not, wipe out and re-create the user.

its not user specific... I can log in as root, but not any regular user.

edit: no matter what the user or password
