I'm trying to install RH 8.0 on a Comaq Proliant 4500 with 196 Megabytes of ram. During the install, I get a message that states "insufficient memory to install".
For some reason, RH 8.0 doesn't see the ram during the install.

I would check the web for the specs of the machine. I know Compaq did use some proprietary hardware before they were eaten by HP. I would suspect the RAM of being incompatible..
You probably need to pass this argument at installation time: Maybe something like: linux "mem=196M"
And then I think you can add something like this Lilo after the installation if all goes well:
append = "mem=exactmap mem=640K@0 mem=196M@1M"
Not sure if all of this will work though, I belive it worked on these proliant servers back when 6.2 was latest Redhat version and they had problems recognizing RAM on these machines.
This is amazing, I had the same problem with my ProLiant 2500. Where are all these ProLiants coming from? I know I scrounged mine from a Materials Surplus warehouse sale. 65$ US. How about everybody else? I know there are a few threads in this forum about the same problem for the ProLiant.
I envy anyone with a 4500, my 2500 is pretty sluggish.
Anybody have any experience with the server's remote administration feature?
There are many, many posts on this issue. Try using the forum search feature with the words ProLiant and Memory and you should see the solution more clearly. Booting the installation with the option worked for my ProLiant too, but I don't remember exactly what the entry was.
