i have another problem.
i have a shuttle sk41g motherboard with builtin soundchip (via82cxxx).
i also have a soundblaster live installed in the pci-slot.
both cards are detected and available in rh8, but when i use the "soundcard detection"-ulitity to play a sound, only the sblive works. if i choose the via soundchip and press play the sound will still come from the sblive.
i'm a linux newbie so i'm not sure what the problem may be. perhaps i'm doing something wrong.
should i be able to select /dev/dsp and /dev/dsp1 i xmms to use the two different soundcards separately?
i have to soundcards.
if i start the "sound detection"-utility if displays to pages, one for each soundcard.
i select sblive and press "play sound" and a sound can be heard from the sblive.
i selec the via chip and press "play sound" and sound can be heard from the sblive. not the via chip.
However, yes, one card is probably using /dev/dsp (probably your SB since that's where the default sound is coming from) and the other is using /dev/dsp1 (again, probably). In xmms you can force it to output to a different device, so check the box and choose /dev/dsp1
