TV Viewing

I have jsut a few questions..

Are there any apps for Linux that would allow me to record stills and full motion video from a compatible TV card?

Also, are there any utilities that will convert an AVI to MPEG 2?

Lastly, does anyone know if the Radeon video in/out ports work under Linux?

Heh. I just spent all long weekend (well between beers anyways) doing just that on an ATI all-in-wonder. Go get gatos, XFree4.01, and xawtv. read a lot and get some religion. I really have no idea how I finally got it up and runing. It was _way_ easier back in 2.2.13...

Now I'm working on getting the capture stuff functional.

If you follow the links at ATI.com you can drill down to links to the linux stuff via the support page for your card. In short I had to get the following...

glib-2.10
gtk+-2.10
ati.2 (gatos stuff)
xfree4.10
xawtv (the TV viewer)
more beer
some video4linux kernel stuff (out of desperation - I don't know if it actually worked)
