Question Turning off telnet

I have slackware 8 and I don't want to have the telnet server running on my computer because I never use it and I figure it can only cause me problems. How would I go about turning it off?

the simple way, set disable=yes in /etc/xinetd.d/telnet

or just unsintall it... but that's slack, so it'll be in source only

while I'm at it, I might as well disable the ftp server also. How is this done?

Wow thanks for the quick reply, I didn't even see it. I figured out how to stop telnet and ftp, you were right, execpt that it seems slack 8 uses regular inetd instead of xinetd, so I edited /etc/inetd.conf, but the point is it now works. Thanks!

hmm yeah i thought it did, but i've not sued slack before... i was gonna end up typing /etx/[x]inetd.d but that wouldv'e been confusing for me let alone others.
