troubles installing

I've used Linux before, nut never installed it myself.

This is where I'm having problems.

When it comes to the partitioning aspect of the installation I always get the error:

Could not allocate requested partitions:
Partitioning failed: could not allocate partions.

This happens whether I let the redhat installation manager attempt to do it for me, or if I try using Disk Druid (I'm not an expert so I stay away from fdisk).

I'm looking to run a dual boot (with windows) ... the /boot partition is able to be placed in within the required cylinders. It's the /swap and / (root) partitions that cause the error.

One more thing, my two hard drive are labeled "hde" and "hdf" by detection. (i think this may have something to do with it?)

Any suggdestions would be greatly appreciated,

mike

they just weren't recognized...

I think It's the way my hardware is set up; the hh must be on different controllers which is why linux assigns it to hde (hdf is full and I don't want to install anything on it)

if this is what causing the problem, do I need to put my drives back to their original controllers, or is there a way around this in the settup?
