Trouble Picking up [SB Live! Value] EMU10k1X Sound card.

I can go to the hardware browser and it lists [SB Live! Value] EMU10k1X, under sound cards. But... If i go to system settings -> Sound Detection I do not hear the test soud. I also get a "cannot open dev/dsp/" or similar message when starting up fedora.

I heard that it installs with sound unmute and I should run a command to unmute something called aumix.. When i try this command I always get "aumix: error opening mixer".

Using Fedora Core 2
