Maybe find a Gnome version of the theme and set it up in Gnome, then return to using KDE?

you'd need to use the gnome control center, or just manually copy the relevant gtkrc file from the theme you want to ~/.gtkrc.

if you don't want all of gnome to be used, you can use a third party app such as http://www.muhri.net/nav.php3?node=gts

i tried that little switching program, but it didn't work. I got these errors in the terminal it was running in as I changed the themes and hit apply.

[bane@localhost gtk-theme-switch-1.0.1]$ ./switch

Gtk-WARNING **: libgdk_pixbuf.so.2: cannot open shared object file: No such file or directory

Gtk-CRITICAL **: file gtkentry.c: line 440 (gtk_entry_set_text): assertion `text != NULL' failed.

Gtk-WARNING **: libgdk_pixbuf.so.2: cannot open shared object file: No such file or directory

Gtk-CRITICAL **: file gtkentry.c: line 440 (gtk_entry_set_text): assertion `text != NULL' failed.
[bane@localhost gtk-theme-switch-1.0.1]$

is there any way to themes gtk w/o gnome?

Seems you havent installed libgdk which it depends on.
Dont you have GNOME just to do this?

You could have used something like KPackage to search your database of rpms to find the libgdk_pixbuf.so.2 file within any. I suspect this feature is available via the command line too, and in web-based rpm finders.
