Test Apache installation and configure it how?

hello, i'm now working in fedora core 5 and i've intalled apache server throu console.
i've downloaded the httpd-2.2.3 file and run a few commands on console for installation and i think it work because appears a message on console telling "apache web server installed sucessfully"
the doubt is how do i know if apache is working correctly? or how do i change the configurations of server?
i'm sorry for my bad english, i'm portuguese...

type this
service httpd restart
apache should start now, then open your browser and type http://localhost/
conf file is located at /etc/httpd/conf/httpd.conf
