Terminal auto-completion - stopping speaker noise

I've been installing freshrpms for redhat today and finally got so damn sick of the standard speaker beep, that I disconnected the speaker.

This isn't really the solution I want, however, so my question is :-

Can you disable the speaker beep when hitting TAB for file name completion ?

In fact, can you entirely disable the speaker beep in Linux without having to physically disconnect it ?

If your using gnome-terminal there is an option. If you go to Edit -> Profile and edit a profile there is a box you can uncheck.
