Angry tar command problem:urgent


I am facing the tar command problem during backup
$tar -cvfz /opt/backup/backupfile.tar.gz /opt/d01

(d01 is directory)
It give me the following error "Removing leading '/' from member names."

what is problem with tar command. Iam running this command from root directory.

Hi Sajjad!

Calm down a little.

tar, by default, uses relative path names. That's why it removes the '/'. If you necessarily wants it to preserve the absolute path you should add the flag -P. Alternatively (and better) you should give it just 'opt/d01' as directory argument.
