suggestions on family tree programs and.....

I have a file with my family tree on it and the program to open it is obviously on a Windows program.... aq? Anyways, I'd like some suggestions on how to easily show this through the internet so that other family members can see the information and update me on changes. I don't want to spend $ on having someone help me on starting an interactive web site at the moment. I've heard of starting something through Mozilla or Firefox.

If you don't want to run a webserver at home, or rent a hosted one, some of the major players like Yahoo and Google have areas like Flickr (spelling?) or Photobucket (??) where you can just upload images and define who can see them. Kind of like free hosting.

There is a site called GenesReunited http://www.genesreunited.co.uk/default.aspx?ixc=u, that is popular in the UK.

I don't think it will let other people amend it, but they will be able to view it, if you allow them. Also you can publish it, so that other people that think they share ancestors can email you. Having said that I think you have to pay to use it.

If you save your family tree as a GEDCOM file. Most software can up load them.

In terms of Linux software, I use 'Gramps'.

I think Family Tree Maker can publish ready made web pages, but is windows and you would have to host somewhere, and you would not be able to amend online.

Chrism01 and Chris106 - maybe you are distant relatives.
