Unhappy stumped on serial port

In order to configure a Cisco router through its console port, a serial adapter is used. Does anyone know of how I might access the serial port to make these configurations? I've tried looking through the SuSE manuals, but didn't find anything. Maybe it's hiding somewhere, but if anyone can help me out, I'd appreciate it very much!

You need to enable / disable the getty.
SuSE by default's look like this....

rmal runlevels
# <id>:<runlevels>:<action>:<process>
# The "id" field MUST be the same as the last
# characters of the device (after "tty").
1:2345:respawn:/sbin/mingetty --noclear tty1
2:2345:respawn:/sbin/mingetty tty2
3:2345:respawn:/sbin/mingetty tty3
4:2345:respawn:/sbin/mingetty tty4
5:2345:respawn:/sbin/mingetty tty5
6:2345:respawn:/sbin/mingetty tty6
#S0:12345:respawn:/sbin/agetty -L 9600 ttyS0

You would need to replace the 'respawn' to off for the respected port you want to use.

2:2345:off:/sbin/mingetty tty2 -- this is for COM2

This is part of the

/etc/inittab

If this dose not work, you should look at the instruction for the program you are using.. if its a gui..
