stop bash checking mails at login

How do you stop bash checking your mail when you first login?

I have searched the web and found MAILCHECK, but that seems to be for something else - checking the specified mail files periodically, I have also found an option that prevents the mail check at login as well as displaying /etc/motd and last login information, but this isn't good enough because I want to have /etc/motd and last login information displayed

I think the following should work:

In /etc/profile you'll find the following:
Code:
# Notify user of incoming mail. This can be overridden in the user's
# local startup file (~/.bash.login or whatever, depending on the shell)
if [ -x /usr/bin/biff ]; then
 biff y
fi
Either comment it out, or you could make biff nonexecutable:
Code:
chmod -x /usr/sbin/biff
Hope this helps.

Cheers, Leon.
