StarOffice 5.2

I am trying to install StarOffice 5.2 under Red Hat Linux 7.2. What is the quickest &
most direct way to do this? Do I have to be root?

Thanks!

At prompt type:

chmod 777 starofficefilename.bin

starofficefilename.bin

And you don't have to be root unless you downloaded as root. Its sometimes best to install in the /usr/local directory as well so regular users have access to it.

If all users need their own local installation use

./starofficefilename /net

Tried it all; nothing is working. Readme (Staroffice 5.2) says I must 'mount cd-rom
with execute rights to run setup script from cd'. How do I do THIS!?!

Hmmm ... I've been using StarOffice since version 3,
and installed 5.2 on at least five machines, always using
-net ,not /net...

Maybe that's a special feature of the Indian version?

I'll grab my CD l8r and cut & paste the Readme for you.

sure , i am posting the reame here

To install StarOffice 5.2, just run

so5.2.x86linux.bin

If you wish to install it for multiple users, run

so5.2.x86linux.bin /net

as root, and tell the installer to install to /opt/Office52

After the installation is complete, log in as a normal user, and run

/opt/Office52/program/soffice

to install for that user. This procedure will save considerable disk space.

PCQ

also i installed successfully as they suggested

CHAPTER 7 Starting Setup on the Network Server Login to the system as system administrator. Switch to the graphical X Windows interface if you are not already there. Switch to the installation directory on the CD, by using either a command line in a terminal window or the File Manager. This can be done by using the following command: cd /cdrom/solaris/Office52 (under Solaris) cd /cdrom/linux/Office52 (under Linux) Call the installation script with the command ./setup -net

:P

That's from the official StarOffice EnglishSetup.pdf. NUFF SAID!
