hey,
a friend of my and me are playing a little game..
i get root access to his box, and i need to mess something there. he ofcourse need to fix it. the rules are simple:
i can't delete files
i can't use the RPM system
the solution need to be done without external files or RPM's.
one problem at a time.
I know this has been expressed as all fun and games but this sort of conduct should not be expressed openly on this forum or site. We as in a community cannot be held responsible if something should occur or held responsible for any persons action or sayings regarding cracking/breaking into another computer, network or the such.
I ask any member who does respond with an answer to first think about the question asked here. If you can't view it as an actual game, then move on to the next thread.
Actually, this was very similar to how my old instructor taught us linux. I took a Linux+ class as part of a networking program from a while back (A+, MCSE, CCNA and Linux+ all rolled into one) and every day when we came in the instructor had 'broken' something on each of our linux machines, and we had to find out how to fix it. Imagine my suprise when I come to class, boot up my RedHat 7.3 box, and I'm dumped into a non-graphical login. As a linux noob at the time I almost freaked, but it was a great learning experience.
Now, that being said, If you're smart enough to fix what the other has broken, then your smart enoguh to come up with something to screw up on your own, and I refuse to provide examples for the same reason that TrickyKid mentioned. If you really want an example, then search the forums and reverse engineer someone's success story.
