slackware laptop and s-video out

Hello all. I am a noob (about 6-8 months off of windows)and am looking for general info on where to start with this latest puzzle. i am running slackware 12.2 on a Dell inspiron 8600. I would like to be able to hook up a cable from s-video out plug to the rca input plugs on my tv to watch videos. when i hook up the cable I get sound from the tv but no video. I figure maybe i need appropriate drivers or something.Where do I start looking to figure out how to get this working and if it will work on my setup at all? thanks!

It should work on your setup. Make sure that you have the appropriate video drivers installed for your model (nvidia/ati), you can get them from their website(s). They come with display configuration utilities, in which you should be able to configure secondary displays, tv's, etc..
