I have two skype accounts. First I was using my who* account, then a few days later I couldn't sign into my accountname#2 account where I received the following Skype error message: "can't start Skype, you may be currently logged into another computer, please try again later" No matter what I did (uninstall, reinstall; contact Skype customer service, etc), nothing could work. I struggled for 5 days without skype, but then I used the following to solve this problem.
I first entered “ps aux” into terminal, looked up skype's PID # and enter “sudo kill PID#”. After skype was terminated I then entered “sudo skype” to run skype as root in terminal. It started up and then I was able to sign in. I then signed out and then used skype itself to shut the program off naturally. I restarted the program again, but not as root, just as a normal clicking of the Main menu | Internet | “skype” icon. I started up and instead of the “who_67” account name as the default, “andrew.comly” account name was default. I then entered in my password and successfully signed in.

What I think happened is that I may have shut down with the “who_67” account still running, assuming Lubuntu would automatically first sign off then shut down. But in Lubuntu there are still a lot of bugs so maybe that doesn't happen. Anyway the key thing I did is to: 1) open up terminal; 2) enter “ps aux” to list all the programs running (in case skype is running then enter “sudo kill (Skype's PID#); 3) enter “sudo skype” to run skype as root; 5) sign in.

From then on I could sign into Skype normally.

There should be two ways you can mark the thread solved. If you are the OP, then the fifth option on the Thread Tools dropdown menu should be "Mark this thread as solved", and in the white space just above the thread menu bar, there should be a statement with a link in it that says "Please Mark this thread as solved if you feel a solution has been provided."

If you don't see those options, you might make a post about it in the "LQ Suggestions & Feedback" forum.

EDIT: On further investigation, it appears that the General forum may not allow threads to be marked solved. There are none that I see in General that are marked solved.

Any way to change a thread from the general forum to another forum after already creating it?

Click on the "Report" button at the bottom of your last post and ask a moderator to move the thread to a more appropriate forum. The moderator will move it if he agrees. You might want to suggest whichever forum you have in mind.
