Setting up a Samba network Print Server
Greetz all!
We have a Win2000 Server configured for our domain's print server, with about 5 HP Laser printers accessible from it. These are the network printers (have their own IP address, no parallel port connections here) and serve users that are authenticated against the domain.
I want to set up our Linux server with Samba to replace this. We are using RH 7.2 and samba-latest (as of 2.1.02). I'm familiar with the SMB file-sharing aspect of Samba but not so much with the printing side; most of the resources I've found so far detail sharing out a locally connected printer, rather than network-accesable types. Couple of questions:
1.) I understand it is possible to set Samba up purely as the printserver and have user authentication happen on the domain controllers by using the following options in smb.conf:
security = server
password server = ServerName
is that correct?
2.) What are resources that deal specifically with setting up multiple network printers as opposed to locally-connected type?
I don't mind checking out the appropriate docs.. I've browsed through the samba FAQ and some LDP howtos.. nothing I found that was right on the money.
