Hi there folks. I figured it out. The thing is I use dhcp to get an IP from my provider. The way suse's scripts are set up, you not only get an IP, but you hostname is set-up as well. After commenting out some lines, my hostname is exactly what I want it to be.

Ok,

so if you are using DHCP what would you add to your hosts file?

127.0.0.1 mybox localhost.localdomain localhost
*.*.*.* ??? mybox

Nothing! Do "man dhcpcd". You will see that if you give the switch "-H", the dhcp deamon will set your hostname. That's what happend with me. After commenting some things out in the file "/sbin/ifup-dhcp", the script that calles dhcp didn't behave that way any more.
