Seek() operation in Linux

Hi ,

I want to clarify something. Suppose I have 10 files with some bytes of data and I have put that on linux server with their corresponding unique url's so user can access them with their url's.

Other person has written the data of above 10 files in one big files and when user sends that url for 3rd file then it is seeking to that 3rd file offset and start providing that data to user so user is getting the same data.

So I want to know the trade off between two approaches, one is to have multiple files on server and one to have a single big file which has all the content of smaller files ??

I suppose I have given all the inputs, in any other case please revert.

Thanks

why not point the URL to a folder, so whatever is updated it will be available to the user who got the URL.

just a hint, don't know if I really get what you mean.

@JJJCR this is not what I meant. I want to know seek operation is costly or opening file and read the contents is costly?
