searching command


Hi

I want to search for a folder, but i don't know the exact location of that folder. how can i find out.

this is the command locate I think.

Code:
find / -type d -iname 'name of your folder optionally including wild cards'
If you run that as a normal user there will be places it cannot look which result in error messages so discard them with
Code:
find / -type d -iname 'name of your folder optionally including wild cards' 2>/dev/null
If the folder is under your home directory then quicker to use
Code:
find ~ -type d -iname 'name of your folder optionally including wild cards'
