I would then need to find the global IP of my wireless router. I will look in my /etc/hosts and see what IP it is, adjusting my DNS and HTTP servers accordingly and reinstalling/reconfiguring the forum software. If that doesn't work I don't know what will.
I usually go to my DSL modem and get mine. It's on the home page and I think it is called WAN IP address.
Unless you have your box locked down really well, I wouldn't be puttin my IP address out for public view. You would be asking for trouble to say it lightly. Some bot is going to find that IP and you may not last long after that unless you really got your system set up correctly.
A lot of that will depend on your provider. You may also want to keep in mind that some providers don't allow you to have a website of your own anyway. That's one reason they change you IP address pretty regular. It makes it harder to track down. I have not tried to do what you are trying to do so I'm not sure if it will work anyway.
What about the router? I am connected to a Wi-Fi network.
You would probably have to configure the router to do port forwarding, otherwise any incoming connections won't be directed to your computer.
BTW, isn't running a forum on a netbook a bit of a bad idea? I've always used desktop PCs for use as servers that are going to carry a bit of a load or stay on indefinitely (much easier to swap out parts and keep the machine cool).
