Smile RHEL 5 LINUX Session Settings - File Auto Load on Screen

I have a text file I wish to be displayed each time a user succesfully logs into the GUI aspect of my RHEL 5 system. The file is a txt file that is generated by a script.

Not to get complicated but basically how can I setup the login of users who login to the GUI aspcect to have displayed a text file.

A thousand thanks,
John

Well, you can do one of three things:

- Make a symbolic link to your text file, to /etc/motd. Then, when a user has a terminal window come up, the file will be displayed.
- Put something in their .profile or .bashrc, to run some application (knotepad, etc.), with your filename in it.
- KDE has some 'post-it' note applications that run, which auto-start when you log in. I'm sure there's something similiar for Gnome.

For GNOME, or rather Gdm, also see /etc/gdm/custom.conf (or gdm.conf but not /etc/X11/gdm/.* AFAIK), "Welcome=" in the Greeter section.
