retrieving lost data

I lost my data using rm -rf by accident.
Is there any way to retrieve my lost data?

Hello,

If you are using ext2 (or 3) there are many utilities to try and recover the files.
Here is what apt-cache search undelete said ;

ntfsprogs - tools for doing neat things in NTFS partitions from Linux
e2undel - Undelete utility for the ext2 file system
gtkrecover - GUI for recover
recover - Undelete files on ext2 partitions

Maybe you should have a look at those programs.

Good luck !!!

ext3 is ext2 with a journal file. Anything that applies to ext2 will apply to ext3. recovery is also possible using debugfs. Here's a link to a howto for it

http://www.faqs.org/docs/Linux-mini/...ndeletion.html

The process requires unmounting the affected partition. I would expect that to apply to any recovery method. So if it's your root partition you'll probably want to use a boot disk such as knoppix before starting.
