resolution not working

i just put a new monitor on my machine that can support 1280x1024 so i edited my xf86config

# DefaultDepth 8
# DefaultDepth 16
DefaultDepth 24
# DefaultDepth 32

# "1024x768" is also a conservative usable default resolution. If you
# have a better monitor, feel free to try resolutions such as
# "1152x864", "1280x1024", "1600x1200", and "1800x1400" (or whatever your
# card/monitor can produce)

Subsection "Display"
Depth 8
Modes "1024x768" "800x600" "640x480"
EndSubsection
Subsection "Display"
Depth 16
Modes "640x480"
EndSubsection
Subsection "Display"
Depth 24
Modes "1280x1024" "1024x768" "800x600" "640x480"
EndSubsection
Subsection "Display"
Depth 32
Modes "1024x768" "800x600" "640x480"
EndSubsection

but i still don't get the higher res

i am using a nvidia card that has the drivers loaded
slackware 9.1 and 2.4.22 kernel right now

any help?

change your resolution in your window manager.

if the resolution and or depth is not set as default it wont work.

could it be you just need to lower your HZ setting? i had a problem and was "stuck" at 800x600. i wanted 1024x768. i just lowered the Hz from 85 to 75 and i could then choose the 1024 resoultion. just an idea is all.

You need to scroll though all the color-dephts and resolutions. If you were at 1024x768, 24bit; you need to scroll 11 times.

if you are in 32bit mode, you will not get higher then 1024 so you will need to drop it to 24bit to get the highe res. maybe even as low as 16bit. heck the human eye can not really tell the differance between 16 and 32bit unless you are just a supper artist guy.

Yes, but the 3rd is in 32 bit. 3 times after again, and you have 8 bit.
