removing path variables globally

when I do the following:

# echo $PATH

I get:

/usr/bin : /usr/local/bin : /usr/local/jdk/bin/ : /usr/local/bin : /usr/local/someDirectoryThatDoesn'tExistAnymore

Is there a command or script that can get rid of the repeated directories and the ones that don't exist anymore?

Thanks.

There's no special command. You need to edit configuration files and remove the ones you don't need. Most of the PATH definition can be found in /etc/profiles.
