Removed files-where have they gone!!!????

This is a case of a shell script gone bad. I was trying to use a script to move the contents of a directory in my home directory into the trash.

But looks like it all went wrong as all the directories in my home started to vanish before my very eyes. Fortunatly there is nothing too important cos I have just installed but I spend most of today writing some mp3's there and there are 1 or 2 other files I need.

Think it is bad cos they are not in the trash. My script used rm -rf * - Looks like this was an oversight!

What you have done is similar to removing files in a cmd window in Windows -- the files are just removed, they don't go to the trashcan. Compare this to deleting files in the file explorer (Windows) or Nautilus (Gnome).

If you want to move your files to the Trashcan you should have written something like
mv * ~/.Trashcan
Then you would have moved the files to your .Trashcan (DOT-Trashcan) directory.

Your files are gone, dude!

"If you ever drop your keys into a river of molten
lava, let'em go, because, man, they're gone." --Jack Handy

The good thing is that you didn't lose anything really important. Just think, this learning experience could have happened later on with critical files.
