Unhappy Relocation Error

I get the following error when I try to run "lpr"

lpr: relocation error: /usr/local/lib/libc.so.6: symbol __libc_stack_end, version GLIBC_PRIVATE not defined in file ld-linux.so.2 with link time reference

I'm running Slackware 8.1 and have been trying to get my printer working for about a week...

anyone ever come across this error before and/or know how to fix it?

Thanks,
SIR_Taco

Try CUPS, instead of lpr and see if that doesn't do it for you. A number of distros are slowly moving to CUPS and away from LPR.

Cheers--

I'm actually using CUPS but I thought (probably wrong though) that CUPS was dependant on lpr to send information to the printer.

Either way CUPS doesn't seem to be working either and I'm wondering if that error message may also be the cause of my CUPS problems.... or is that possible? That message doesn't come up in the error log for cups though.

the problem is that as far as the CUPS error log is concerned my jobs are printing fine and there is no problem. But when I go to restart a "printed" job it says "error-client-not-possible" and I have no clues as to how to correct this or get my printer to actually print.

Any ideas?

CUPS and LPR are different, and mutually exclusive IIRC.

I'll have to research the error message CUPS gives since I have never gotten it. Does your print queue show your job, or is it empty?

Ok I'll walk you through what happens;

So I hit print, if I select "preview" ghost-view comes up showing my document as it should be printed fine, no problem there.

So I select "continue printing" and as far as the program is concerned, kwrite for instance, "printing completed".

I have Kjobviewer running alongside so I can see jobs go in and out... my print job gets the status: "processing" then disapears.

if I do a Job Report on the aborted print job:

Attribute - Values
job-id - 27
job-more-info - http://localhost:631/jobs/27
job-uri - http://localhost:631/jobs/27
job-printer-up-time - Tue Feb 25 15:34:45 2003
job-originating-user-name - *myusername*
copies - 1
multiple-document-handling - separate-documents-collated-copies
orientation-requested - 0x3
job-priority - 50
job-originating-host-name - localhost
job-id - 27
job-state - 0x8
job-media-sheets-completed - 0
job-printer-uri - http://localhost:631/printers/Canon_BJC_1000
job-name - /home/phil/Desktop/QXfer
job-k-octets - 21
time-at-creation - Tue Feb 25 15:34:33 2003
time-at-processing - Tue Feb 25 15:34:33 2003
time-at-completed - Tue Feb 25 15:34:33 2003
job-hold-until - no-hold
job-sheets - none none
job-state-reasons - aborted-by-system

So I check my /var/log/cups/error_log:

d [25/Feb/2003:15:40:06 -0500] get_jobs: job->id = 27
d [25/Feb/2003:15:40:06 -0500] get_jobs: count = 15

d [25/Feb/2003:15:40:06 -0500] copy_attribute(0x80d6658, 0x80c2de0[job-k-octets,2,21])
d [25/Feb/2003:15:40:06 -0500] add_job_state_reasons(0x40341008[5], 27)
D [25/Feb/2003:15:40:06 -0500] ProcessIPPRequest: 5 status_code=1

d [25/Feb/2003:15:40:06 -0500] CloseClient: Removing fd 5 from InputSet and OutputSet...

I can't seem to see anything wrong in the CUPS error log (I have it on debug to try to find problems)

maybe a fresh set of eyes could find something in there that's wrong, I've been looking at the same thing too long I think.

Thanks,
SIR_Taco
