Redhat 9 won't remember backround

My backround is black. If I check the backrounds settings, it has a picture of the bitmap there, if I browse to the location of the bitmap and re-select it, it will change the backround but then change back to black on a reboot.

I'm using GNOME 2.0 (at least I think that is what comes with RedHat 9.0)
