I'm guessing you do. There Might be a chance that if you don't install everything, you might not need one of the disks, but there is no way (I know of) to tell what disk you won't need (if in fact you don't need one of them)

I'm sure redhat comes with samba... and yes, you should save your samba.conf.... you might need to make some minor changes though

I am running 8.0 and it is far and away the best linux distro yet. Although I don't use KDE, the gnome2 is very well thoughout and put together. I think even new users will be able to use it VERY easily. http://www.strath.org/redhat1.png

The more I look at BlueCurve, the more I feel it's a ripoff of XP.

I just loaded rh 8 on my house mate's computer.... her first venture into linux! I'm on the system right now. It seems pretty nice... no bugs (so far), and clean look. It definitly seems like a real good competitor in the "install and work... I don't want to do anything else" market. ( well, the "work" part of that is debatable... I had just done a new install of windows too, and that kept crashing)

CHECKSUM: I loaded the "desktop" option on this and It only needed the first two cd's (actually one package from the third, but I THINK that is because I enabled some extrat stuff)

you don't need all 5 disks!! 1-3 should be enough.
4 & 5 are source RPM's

You can do a simple workstation install with the development tools with just disks 1-2. Device support isn't that great though. It didn't setup ide-scsi emulation for my ide burner and it failed to recognize my AC97 sound chip (built-in to many recent motherboards). Mandrake 9 has far better device support, but it isn't quite as pretty. Redhat 8 has GREAT antialiased fonts.

I don't know, I think that Mandrake 9.0 is nicer looking, especially the setup, but everything else as well. I like Redhats update the best though.

Attn, JetBlackz

I've got a few questions about my cd burning setup I'd like to ask you. If that's alright, please email me through this site. I tried to email you but you've disabled it through this site.

GT I.N.C: think it's time for you to pay a visit to your local LUG? Linux User Group is a very good place to start. Tell them you're new and you need 8.0. Bring your CDRs. They might do it for free. Better yet, sit through a meeting.

bax: start a thread with the question. I'll see what I can do.

It is listed on linux.org.

http://www.linux.org/groups/australia.html

Just test-drived Psyche. 2 words: Hot d@mn! I wonder what the reactions of the press, users & industry are. I wouldn't be suprised if any other distros that are based on other distros jump ship.

My network card, monitor, video and printer were 100% accurately detected and installed. It's exactly as easy, if not more so, as Windows. The installer split in 2 parts is smooth as silk. Just like XP. Only it takes one reboot. Mozilla and other apps run somewhat faster. The CD autorun/open is excellent.

MDK needs to work harder. I mean their artists got to stop being laid back while the boss is out. Look does matter. I've seen 9.0 beta and the graphics didn't change half bit. Psyche is gonna be an eye opener for my friend.
