I'd say RHEL 6 grub-install doesn't work with RHEL 4 libraries.

I don't know about RHEL, but http://vault.centos.org/ has the entire history of ISOs starting with 2.1. I'd download the appropriate Centos 4 ISO and try recovering your system with it.

after manually mounting to sysimage, I think you also need to run the following commands:
Code:
mount --bind /dev /sysimage/dev
mount --bind /proc /sysimage/proc
mount --bind /sys /sysimage/sys
mount -o bind /run /sysimage/run
chroot /sysimage

You've been a member here ten years now..and you have never followed up in ANY of your previous threads:

https://www.linuxquestions.org/quest...h-ldap-807801/
https://www.linuxquestions.org/quest...re-4175660764/

You are using a very, VERY old copy of RHEL, and you're using another old version to try to rescue it. You have not provided any details about your hardware, but the bad ELF interpreter may indicate that you're using a 64 bit program on a 32 bit system...which will not work. RHEL 4 was both 32 and 64 bit...6 was not. I'd suggest you stop where you are, and load the CURRENT version of RHEL (after paying for support), or load the current CentOS. Restore your data from backup.
