Exclamation RAID1 remove

Hi ,

I have a mirrored disk from a raid1 array that I want to boot as a normal hdd. It boots up to a point when it starts searching for the md0 device (which it obviously doesn't find) and then drops into a RAID Repair console.

So how do I remove the actual array and make the disk bootable again. mdadm was not very helpful with this , as the array doesn't seem to mounted at all.Can I maybe use a live CD (ubuntu or mepis or something) , to remove the array?

I am at a loss here and desperately need help so any would be appreciated.

Rgrds

The data should be backed up and the disk needs to be repartitioned.

David ,

Unfortunately this is not an option for me , as I need the disk intact with all the data. Is there ANY way to "un" raid a system without drastic measures like repartitioning?

My biggest problem at the moment is I'm at a catch 22 situation where I cannot boot the system to remove the array , and it seems I can't remove the array through the RAID Repair console.

Please , please if ANYONE has a solution it will be greatly appreciated.

Thanks in advance
