Question

I heard that if you run a linux webserver through roadrunner they will cut you off? I'm just wondering if I should change to DSL cause I was planning on running one. Thanks for the help

well if it's FTP i know that one way to help avoid this problem is to run the FTP on a non-standard port like 27015 or something like that. run it on one of the online gaming ports as the games tend to send a lot of information in and out......if it's another type of server sorry i don't have a suggestion.

Well its just that their system isn't designed to handle the kind of traffic a webserver deals with (upstream). I have been caught (im using COX communications) and they just set me a warning to shut them down or else they would disconnect me. All I did was move my web server to some obscure port, 900 in my case (the industry standard is 80). They haven't said anything yet

If you keep it small and not too much traffic they might not do anything. they use to actually just block it, well in austin anyways but now they don't, too much work i guess to keep scanning when the network gets too big. But keep in mind they might just run across it and decide to cut you off, then you will have to prove you don't have it running again before they turn you back on. yeah it sucks, but this is coming from someone who works for roadrunner.. i hate my job, and i wish i can find a new one..
