Proxy server on a 486

I have an old 486 machine with Windows 95 and an old NE2000 Compatible Network Interface card. The 486 has a floppy drive, but no CD-Rom. I have 3 Mandrake 9.1 disks eager to do something. I know that there is a way to do a Linux install from another box. My flagship computer does not have an NIC as far as I know, but it will soon have one. Could someone please tell me if Linux will be compatible with the old NE2000 NIC and how I start installing a Linux Proxy Server from one box to another.

if your just trying to install mandrake to the 486 via network then this shoulg get you started

http://www.ibiblio.org/pub/Linux/doc...all-HOWTO.html

for the record so to speak, i'd suggest something much lighter like this

http://www.amigolinux.org/index.htm

if however, your looking to install a proxy server or set up the 486 box as a firewall/router appliance then have a look here

http://www.google.com/search?hl=en&i...=Google+Search

there are so many links and choices available, i thought you should have a look at all of them.
good luck.

Thanks for the advice PeaceDog. Amigo sounds like a good idea. I am just not sure if Win 95 uses FAT 32 or FAT 16. I will try it anyway.
