Problems with swat and inetd

Hi All!

I have two network problems that I think are related. I am quite lost and would appreciate any advice!

1)
I am trying to set up samba shares. To do this I downloaded and installed the rpm for swat and followed the directions here:
http://rtfm.dyndns.info/tips/2000/05/05/31.shtml

a)
Edit file "/etc/services". Add the following line if it isn't already there.
swat 901/tcp
{Ok - the file was there with that line already in it.]

b)
Edit file "/etc/inetd.conf". Add the following line if it isn't already there.
swat stream tcp nowait.400 root /usr/sbin/swat swat
[The file didn't exist - I created it and put that line in it - swat was installed in that dir.]

c)
Restart "inetd". In Red Hat this can be done by running the following command as root.
/etc/rc.d/init.d/inet restart
[This didn't work - I don't have this file! Instead I have /etc/rc.d/init.d/xinetd, which I could restart.

d)
To access S.W.A.T., just browse to the following address.
http://[server]:901/
[I could not get this to work - I tried my hostname, ip and 'localhost' I always got the following error: "Could not connect to remote server"]

2)
This made me think that I don't have a web server... so I went to "(KDE): System Settings | Server Settings | Server" to open up the "Service Configuration" gui. The 'httpd' entry was there but not ticked. I ticked it and pressed "start". I got the following dialog error:

httpd failed. The error was: Starting httpd: httpd: Could not determine the server's fully qualified domain name, using 127.0.0.1 for ServerName
[FAILED]

Any advice would be most welcome!

You should have a file /etc/xinetd.d/swat that looks like this.

Code:
# default: on
# description: SWAT is the Samba Web Admin Tool. Use swat \
# to configure your Samba server. To use SWAT, \
# connect to port 901 with your favorite web browser.
service swat
{
	port		= 901
	socket_type	= stream
	wait 		= no
	only_from 	= 127.0.0.1
	user		= root
	server		= /usr/sbin/swat
	log_on_failure	+= USERID
	disable 	= no
}
To restart xinetd just do this:
service xinetd restart

Creative name /bin!

OK, I had /etc/xinetd.d/swat and the only difference was that mine included:
disable = yes
I changed this and restarted the service with
/etc/rc.d/init.d/xinetd restart

I could then access swat through http://localhost:901/

Thanks!

Rob
