problems with "insmod NVdriver"

hi guys!

i ve already install the nvidia drivers and i ve configured the /etc/X11/XF86Config-4 file too. however i have got a problem with insmod. when i run startx it shows:

Fatal server error:
no screens found
...
XIO: fatal IO error 104 (Connection reset by peer) on X server ":0.0" after 0 request (0 known processed) with 0 events remaining

and if i run modprobe NVdriver it shows me:

Warning: loading /lib/modules/2.4.21/kernel/drivers/video/NVdriver will taint the kernel: non-GPL license - NVIDIA
nvidia: no nvidia graphics adapter found
/lib/modules/2.4.21/kernel/drivers/video/NVdriver: init_module: no such device
/lib/modules/2.4.21/kernel/drivers/video/NVdriver: Hint: insmod errors can be caused by incorrect module parameters, including invalid IO or IRQ parameters.

i think i must to pass the io and irq parameters to the insmod command. The IRQ is 16, and Window$ says that the E/S memory range is:03B0-03BB and 03C0-03DF but i supossed this is different in another O.S.
How can i know the io param? what must i do with the warning (about the non-GPL license)? In general, how can i solve this problem? thankkkks.
bye

hi friends

i am thinking it is posible that i ve installed the NVIDIA drivers in a wrong way. How can i know if i have installed the drivers well?
..
i ve tried several things. for example, i ve used the XFree86 config of my FreeBSD system but the result is the same. i ve checked the /proc/interrupts and /proc/ioports files and i have not found anything related with the NVIDIA card.
...
ahh! another datum: i have got my debian 3.0. over a Virtual machine VMWARE (when i have more experience, i will install it in another disk partion). can be this the cause of my error?

sorry for my bad english and thanks! bye.

yes!! I have the same serji's problem; until X10: fatal 10 error 104. Everything was working fine, but my problem was that I upgraded from RH8 to 9.
Well, by these times, I'm able to run my server only in text mode, cause "no screens found".. I ran ./NVchooser.sh...¬ my kernel needs this driver: NVIDIA_kernel-1.0-4191.src.rpm...
I'm a MD (high newbie obviously!) don't have enough time to study all the commands needed to download & install this file in text mode...of course; I know that for some of you could be a "piece of cake" but I wish I could find something like I found in this URL: "Complete idiot's guide to Nvidia drivers" wrote by Fingel (is he/she a member?)..... but in text mode...or tell me about some place to find this info...thx! at least for read this. willcox@linuxmail.org

You could run xf86config , and you should be able to make an XF86Config file that will detect you video card using red hats drivers, getting the Nvidia ones to work is a different story.

When I installed them from the rpms I had to type driver as "nvidia" :::

Section "Device"
# no known options
#BusID
Identifier "NVIDIA GeForce 2 MX (generic)"
Driver "nvidia"
VendorName "NVIDIA GeForce 2 MX (generic)"
BoardName "NVIDIA GeForce 2 MX (generic)"
EndSection

fiddle around with xf86config to try and get it up and running, even if you have to choose a nvidia driver thats not your card.
