As far as I see, that's not Kubuntu problem.
Well, firefox is a GTK app, and KDE is built on QT libs.
Probably Mepis uses "gtk-qt-engine" by default to make GTK apps take QT theme.
Kubuntu doesn't have that, as I see.
So you can either download and install "gtk-qt-engine" to Kubuntu, or copy it from Mepis.
Then in Control Center you'll be able to choose GTK theme.
