problem with profiles in Linux (Firefox in particular)

Hi,

This is really annoying. The lab at my university using Linux (on a network) Fedora core 2 and use Firefox as the main browser. But whenever I forget to close Firefox before logout of the netwrork, then later, when I login to the network at another machine, it tells me that the default profile is in use and I have to use different one or create a new one (and hence, lost all configurations).

I work around by create a new profile and copy all the configuration files from the old one to the new one (at /home/.mozilla/firefox/<profile_name>). But this is annoying. Is there any way that fix this? (I mean, no matter whether I close firefox before logout or not, the profile will automatically be free).

A little bit confusing. Hoping you guys understand what I saying ^_^.

In your profile there is a file called lock, it's only there when Firefox is running. If Firefox (or the system) crashes it can be left behind the next time you launch Firefox, causing the problem you describe. Just delete it.

find ~/.mozilla -name lock
