problem: System starts up in 1600x1200 "text mode"

Hi, i got a somewhat minor but still annoying problem with my linux system:

Inside the X11 window system, KDE in particular, I can configure the display resolution i wanna see the graphics system run at.
But whenever I switch to text mode, the screen goes to the maximum allowable resolution, which is 1600x1200. The problem is, 1st, I can hardly read the letters so small they are, and 2nd, at such a high resolution the refresh rate goes down to awful 60 Hz!
Is there any way I can configure the system so that I want it to go to old-scool 80x25 text mode? E.g. by editing some system script or something? Is that possible or am I stuck at the highest resolution by design?

System is Suse 9.2

thanks

As suggested by the link, I changed the vga parameter to 769 (680x480) and it worked. Then i simply removed the vga param and it went to 80x25 text mode, just like i wanted it to.

Thank you for your very quick help!!!
