Problem getting X to load

Hello,

I am a Linux newbie. I downloaded and installed Red Hat Linux 9. When I try to configure Xwindows settings using the redhat-config-xfree86 command I get a nice blue screen with an X for a mouse cursor and then it just sits there and doesn't do anything else.

The video card I have is a ATI Radeon 9000. But no matter what Xwindow config command I type I get the same thing. Blue screen forever. I usually wind up restarting the computer. What am I doing wrong?

Thanks,

JRF2k

I assume you had a nice GUI when you installed RedHat so it was able to find something it could use.

Have you tried the old xf86config program?? You might have to find it with whereis since it's not used very often anymore.

bash2.05$ whereis xf86config
bash2.05$ /some_dir/xf86config

Good Luck
